6th Grade Science
Welcome to science in Mr. Cole's room. We will start the year with Life Science and Computer Science.
In Life Science students will be learning about the role of photosynthesis, the relationships between organisms, biotic and abiotic factors in our environment, and the impact of invasive species in our environment.
For CS (Computer Science) we will use the lessons sponsored by Code.org. Code.org is a nonprofit company dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools. This grading period students will learning about different computer coding languages, the problem solving practice, engineering and design, how to work together to solve problems and much more. I'm looking forward to facilitating and learning more about computer science.
In addition, our 6th grade science program will consist of Indiana’s Academic Standards for Science and Computers. Our science program will reflect the underlying premise that science education should be an inquiry-based and a hands-on experience. The new standards adopted by the Indiana State Board of Education in April of 2016, will be implemented starting this school year 2018-2019. You can expect the following from our science curriculum:
